Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) is an evidence-based treatment for couples that combines behavior changes with exercises that promote acceptance and empathy between partners. The first phase of therapy involves an assessment of the couple and each individual, with a focus on the pattern of communication between the couple. Through understanding these patterns, in the second phase of treatment couples learn how to accept their differences and at the same time make necessary changes to work together. As couples learn to empathize with each other, this creates the support and understanding that is necessary to make radical changes individually and as a team.
